Black History Month Showcase 2023

Please join us for a selection of short narratives, animation, experimental works and documentary films about the Black experience in America.

The program is curated by Patrice Bowman, an award-winning filmmaker, colorist and the owner of Bowman Pictures. She is also a member of various film organizations, including Filmshop, Post New York Alliance, and Brown Girls Doc Mafia. 

A talkback with the curator and filmmakers will follow the program.

WATER BORN (dir: Lowell Boston)

Lowell Boston’s commissioned animation film, Water Born uses different animation styles to talk about swimming in the Black community It has been accepted in 6 film festivals. It has received a Director’s Choice Award in the Thomas Edison Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention in Philadelphia’s Short Film Slam.
